For our last project before our thesis we were tasked with checking out different ways to apply parametric design onto products.

Inspiration

I decided to create a parametric design inspired by parametric jewelry and using Voronoi and Metaball plugins in Grasshopper. These plugins allow for the generation of complex geometries with ease, enabling me to explore unique design possibilities and push the boundaries of my creativity. By integrating these tools, I aim to craft a design that seamlessly blends artistry with computational precision, resulting in captivating and innovative jewelry pieces.

To visualize my concept, I experimented with various soap bubble textures and applied them to a wrist to envision them as a watch band. However, I found that the soap mixture limited the diversity in how the bubbles were connected.

Simply replicating a basic soap bubble wouldn't achieve the design I had in mind, as it would make the band too prominent compared to the watch face. To achieve the desired effect, I needed to increase the size of the spaces between the soap cells and enhance the strength of the connections between them.

Arm Application:

Idea was a brace ofsetted and trimmed from a 3d scanned arm to make it easily adjustable to different people and preferences in style. It could either be a band of beads or a watch band.

Pattern Code:

The Soap bubble structure can easily be adjusted on the density of the cells, their size, the lenght of the connecting bridges as well as the strenght of those bridges. That way the pattern can also be adjusted depending on the use and the user.

Problems

Certain nodes in the code made the computing time extremly long. This could be improved by using a different approach to the node structure or a different add on to create similar results.

Parametric Design

Introducing a versatile wristband design, seamlessly transitioning from jewelry to watch band, created using Grasshopper for parametric precision. This project demonstrates adeptness in blending functionality and aesthetics, offering innovative solutions with a keen eye for detail.
